Jerry Gilden was a maker of moderately-priced women’s ready-to-wear from the mid 1940s through to the 1960s. The company was one of the top five producers of women’s dresses in the United States. At the peak of production, the label was producing over a million garments a year.
The in-house costume designer, Giselle, was responsible for designing the dresses and separates that made the Gilden name famous. After her death in 1952, Gilden took as his partners Sayde and Abe Weinberg, with Sayde becoming the designer of the Jerry Gilden lines. The firm ceased production in 1960. Due to the wonderful construction and styling, the label is keenly sought after by today's vintage fashion collectors and lovers.
Condition
This stunning designer dress is in great vintage condition for its age with no notable flaws. She did have a previous alteration where the skirt was taken up at the bodice but this has now been returned to its original state. The tiniest ghost stitching may be visible but honestly you wouldn't know. I have shown a close up of the waist area so you can see for yourself. The only other thing worth mentioned is that I noticed some tiny hand stitching under the arm area but it's sturdy and hardly noticeable. Shown with a crinoline for presentation purposes only.
