Carolyn Schnurer's fashion career spanned twenty years, lasting from 1944 until her retirement in 1964. Her popular casual clothing designs encouraged leisure time activities for the American woman. She also encouraged American fashion designers to take influences from cultures outside of America and to a lesser extent Europe.
Schunrer was noted for her culturally-inspired resort collections. According to the Metropolitan Museum of Art ,her globally inspired designs "typically featured one or two understated thematic details in the cut or fabric, while maintaining a classic American silhouette".
In 1956, Schunrer's fashion line was reportedly making seven million dollars a year in sales. She was equally successful in textile design, as well as fashion design because of her unique textile prints. Examples of her work can be found in the Metropolitan Museum of Art's archives.
Comment
The photos can attest to the stunning presentation of this dress, not only in colour, design and cut but also in its excellent condition. The only issue of note that I can see is that the hem may have been shortened at one point from the original length. Apart from that it is a quality, well-constructed dress.
