Edith Flagg started her career in 1948, after migrating to the US from Romania. Her first employment was working as a seamstress, but she quickly progressed to design. She finally started her own dress manufacturing business in Los Angeles in 1956. Her clothes were a mid-priced line – dresses for the “Average American Woman.” She specialised in dress and jacket ensembles, and also included casual dresses in the five lines she produced each year. Her brand was also characterised by its wrinkle-resistant knitwear. Edith Flagg, Inc. soon expanded from a successful dress manufacturing company in Los Angeles to an international design house with offices and showrooms in New York, Chicago, Atlanta, Cleveland, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Dallas, Charlotte and London, as well as a factory in Hong Kong. She was also an active contributor to California Apparel News and Women's Wear Daily. The label lasted at least into the 1970s. In case you didn't know, Edith Flagg was the first person to import polyester (Crimplene) to the United States and popularise it, as well as the synthetic fabric Dacron.
