Steiff Animals
Steiff was founded in 1880 by Margarite Steiff, later assisted by her brother Fritz, to produce toys. The very first line was elephants, later joined by dogs, cats, pigs and a myriad of other animals. Margarite's nephew Richard joined in 1897 and gave the company an enormous boost by creating the teddy bear in 1902. Five years later, Steiff was manufacturing 974,000 bears, and has been increasing its output ever since.
The company's motto, is "Only the best is good enough for children" and every product is subject to meticulous testing and inspection. The most common materials used in toys are alpaca, felt, mohair and woven plush. Eyes are made of wood or glass, and the stuffing is commonly wood shavings or polyester fibres. A large amount of the work is done by hand, from the initial design sketches to the final airbrushed paint. The signature touch on any Steiff toy is the trademark "button in ear".
Comment
Such an endearing little lamb with the sweetest expression. In overall good condition but missing its button and flag. These Steiff animals are very collectable nowadays.
