On graduation from university in 1933, Albert Galvani worked in the local fashion industry for close to twenty years. Starting out as an assistant controller, he ultimately worked his way up the ladder to become vice president of the Reliance Manufacturing Company. In 1953 he moved to Dallas to take up a position as executive vice president of Justin MCarty Inc. Just two years later he purchased Donovan Manufacturing Company, renaming it Donovan-Galvani of Dallas.
The company marketed its products initially to small-town dress shops and later, as the business grew, to more exclusive boutiques. The label promised to provide 'champagne styling at working-girl prices' producing quality garments for a range of clientele and budgets. His success was assured, so much so that he was one of the first to introduce profit-share arrangements and pension plans for his dedicated and talented employees.
For each of the succeeding 23 years, Donovan-Galvani exceeded planned increases in sales and earnings, rising to become one of the leading manufacturers of women's apparel in Texas. Albert was proud of the fact that when he sold the business in 1980, both the profit sharing and pension plans remained in tact and were received in full by his dedicated employees when the company was subsequently dissolved ten years later.
