Description
* Late 1950s cream background taffeta day dress
* Fabric design features blue and purple tulip-shaped flowers with green leaves
* Classic silhouette with a defined waist and straight skirt
* Sleeveless bodice with a wide squared neckline
* Shelf bust with built-in seams that open below the waist
* Skirt is wiggle shaped with an open kick-pleat at back
* Back has a plunging neckline with a wide tail and large self-fabric bow
* Finished seams, back metal zipper, and hand-sewn hem
* Label reads Alice Edwards Italians
Alice Edwards apparel pops up only occasionally, but all those I've seen are of such a high standard that they must have been in direct competition in their day with the better-known Horrockes Fashions label. The fabric quality is excellent and the dresses have the feel and style of Horrockses. It appears that Alice Edwards had two lines: a daywear range labelled “An Alice Edward’s Italienne” (often featuring lovely glazed cotton fabrics) and “Alice Edward’s Goes Places” (cocktail and party dresses). Nowadays, the label is becoming increasingly sought-after and appreciated for its high quality, excellent tailoring and feminine silhouettes.
Condition
Excellent vintage condition.
No notable flaws that I can see. - the seams are stressed slightly in some places but do not affect either wearability or appearance.
